Beheaded Slot Gameplay
All the action takes place on a 5-reel, 4-row grid formation, with wins paid according to the paytable whenever three or more matching symbols line up across one of the 178 connected paylines. Winning combinations must start from the leftmost reel and move along a connected payline to the right.
Cut Reels Mechanic and the Progression Bar
As winning combinations complete on the reels, the winning symbols, along with any directly below them on all reels, will fall off the bottom of the grid. The reels then refill with more symbols from the top, potentially leading to further wins from the same spin.
As symbols fall off the bottom of the grid, the meter below the reels fills up and progresses through five levels. Each time you unlock a new level, low-paying symbols on the reels are converted into high-paying variants. Levels 1 through 5 are unlocked by collecting 15, 25, 50, 80, and 110 points, respectively.
You’ll receive 3 points for any wild symbol that falls off, 2 points for high-valued symbols, and 1 point for each medium-valued symbol.
Soul Wild Symbols
During spins, it’s also possible to collect the souls from high-paying symbols as they fall off the grid. These souls are collected in a meter to the left of the reels, which has five levels. Milestones at levels one, three, and five, once unlocked, unleash new wild symbols onto the reels.
- Happy Soul Wilds - Requires 4 Souls
- Sad Soul Wilds - Requires 10 Souls
- Angry Soul Wilds - Requires 18 Souls
Hitting those milestones also increases the size of the wilds through 1x1, 2x2, and 3x3, respectively, and increases their win multiplier to 1x, 2x, and 3x.
As for the regular payouts that can come your way, the medium and high-pays are depicted by a variety of severed heads. These are difficult to explain to differentiate from others as they’re just heads, but the high pays offer between 3x and 9x the stake for five across a payline. The medium pays are worth between 0.9x and 1.5x for full symbol combinations. The low pays are the A, K, Q, J, and 10, which pay a maximum of 0.75x, 0.6x, 0.45x, 0.3x, and 0.15x, respectively.
Bonus Features and Free Spins
There are two bonus games in the Beheaded slot, which can be reached either through the progression system or by purchasing them via the buy bonus options. You can also trigger the Tzantza Free Spins bonus at any time by landing three or more scatter symbols in any position on the reels.
Ayahuasca Free Spins Bonus
This bonus can be triggered through the progression bar, awarding you 2 spins for each level you unlock up to level 4. During this feature, three medium-value symbols are converted into high-paying types.
Tzantza Free Spins Bonus
If you progress to level 5 on the progression meter, you’ll receive 6 free spins. However, if three or more scatter symbols drop off the grid during a spin, you’ll receive 6 spins as standard and an additional two spins for each level you’ve skipped on the progression meter. In this bonus, all medium-value symbols are replaced by high-paying variants.
If you do not manage to scoop the slot’s maximum win of 15,590x before the end of Tzantza Spins, you’re given two choices to consider once the feature ends. You can grab a guaranteed win of between 5x and 8,000x your current stake, or gamble what you’ve won from the bonus for a chance at winning that maximum win.
Buy Bonus Feature
It wouldn't be a NoLimit City slot without a bunch of buy bonus options, and on Beheaded, you have the following options:
- 6 Ayahuasca Free Spins for a cost of 100x your current stake.
- 10 Tzantza Free Spins for a cost of 500x your current stake.
- A Lucky Draw for a cost of 225x your current stake.
Technical Aspects - Bet Sizes, RTP, and Variance
Beheaded has a 96.03% RTP, and as you’d expect from a NoLimit City slot, a high variance/volatility. As for the staking range available, you can spin for between 0.20 and 100.00 per spin. There is an xBet feature, however, that lets you spin for 2x your current stake, but these spins start at Level 1 and are, therefore, more likely to trigger the Tzantza Free spins bonus.
Beheaded Compared to Other Casino Games
NoLimit City is among the most successful slot developers around these days, and that's thanks to releasing a string of hugely popular titles in recent years. Not many other software companies can compare unless we’re talking about the likes of Elk Studios, Relax Gaming, and Push Gaming.
However, the one negative about Beheaded is the smaller-than-usual maximum win. Compared to most other titles, 15,950x is a big number, but compared with many slots from the above developers and NoLimit City themselves, it’s low. Relax Gaming’s Money Train 4, for example, boasts 150,000x the stake, while Razor Returns from Push Gaming can pay as much as 100,000x.
The slot compares well with many other titles in terms of its fantastic combination of features and mechanics, while its 96.03% RTP is bang on the average for slot games.
Our Final Opinion of Beheaded
Sometimes, developers such as NoLimit City are victims of their own success. Players are so used to a consistent supply of blockbuster titles that when one doesn't quite reach the heights of others but is still a fantastic slot, they’re left disappointed. That is the feeling here, as while Beheaded would be some other provider's best slot, it's far down the list compared to other NoLimit City releases.
While it has a fantastic combination of features and mechanics, they’re fewer and not as lucrative as those on other slots. Plus, the 15,950x the stake max win is low for NoLimit’s standards. We still think it’s a great slot by the way, just not up there with the developer’s best.
